Pipeline work across the Gulf Coast from offshore platforms to inland facilities along the Mississippi River demands equipment built for the conditions you face daily. When you're handling 36-inch and 42-inch natural gas lines across wetlands, industrial sites and coastal terrain, lift capacity and stability determine whether your project stays on schedule.
Cat® pipelayers give you the high lift capacity and precise control you need to help safely lift, move and position heavy pipe sections in Gulf South conditions. Backed by over 90 years of expertise, we support Gulf Coast pipeline and petroleum projects with reliable machines and single-source support.

Louisiana Cat carries two pipelayer models built for different pipeline applications. That range helps crews match lift capacity, operating weight and ground contact area to the route conditions in front of them.
Built for smaller- to mid-diameter pipe on standard onshore and inland runs, the PL83 pipelayer delivers a 170,000-pound lift capacity and an operating weight of 109,000 pounds. The Cat C15 engine produces 319 hp while meeting U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emissions standards. Segmented counterweights and electronically controlled hydraulic winches give you fine control when positioning sections across uneven ground.
The Load Moment Indicator (LMI) monitors load status to keep you within safe working limits. For contractors running pipe through agricultural lands and industrial corridors across the state, the PL83 gives you enough lift power to move pipe without burning extra fuel on the shorter hauls.
When your pipeline projects involve heavier pipe sections and larger diameters, the PL87 pipelayer steps up with 216,000-pound lift capacity and a 121,795-pound operating weight. Built on the same Cat C15 engine platform as the PL83, the PL87 pipelayer gains increased capacity through additional counterweight and an extended track-roller frame that puts more track on the ground.
This design supports slope capability on challenging coastal and nearshore terrain common in Gulf Coast energy projects. Rear idler placement enhances stability when you’re lifting maximum loads on large-scale, high-production pipeline jobs.
Our field service technicians provide dependable diagnosis and repair at your worksite, helping reduce downtime and keep your project moving.
We understand Gulf Coast operating conditions because we work in them. Hurricane-season weather, high humidity and coastal soil challenges shape how your equipment performs. Our service teams know how salt air affects hydraulics, how wetland sites demand different maintenance schedules and how to spec machines that hold up to the climate.
As your single-source dealer, we deliver new Cat pipelayers, custom engine packaging and statewide field service. Whether you’re laying pipe for a new natural gas transmission line or expanding energy infrastructure, you work with one team from equipment selection through commissioning and support.
