CATERPILLAR ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN (ET)

CAT ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN (ET) SOFTWARE

Caterpillar Electronic Technician is diagnostic software required to communicate, diagnose and service electronically controlled Caterpillar engines and machines. When connected to an Electronic Control Module (ECM), a technician has the ability to diagnose existing and potential problems, configure the product, and obtain data for analysis.

FEATURES

Displays Parameter Status

  • Caterpillar Electronic Technician allows technicians to view real-time operating parameters from connected Cat equipment and electronic control modules. This includes key data such as engine speed, temperatures, pressures, sensor readings, switch positions, and other system values that help verify how the machine or engine is performing. By displaying live parameter status, Cat ET gives technicians a clearer picture of current operating conditions and helps identify abnormal readings before they lead to larger issues.

Displays Active Diagnostics

  • Cat ET provides access to active diagnostic codes currently being reported by the equipment’s electronic control system. These active diagnostics help technicians quickly identify present faults, system warnings, or component issues that require attention. Instead of relying only on symptoms, technicians can use the active diagnostic information to narrow troubleshooting steps, confirm the affected system, and make more informed repair decisions.

Clear and View Logged Diagnostics

  • Cat ET allows users to review logged diagnostic codes stored in the machine or engine control module. These logged codes provide a history of previous faults, intermittent issues, or recurring conditions that may not be active at the time of service. After troubleshooting and repairs are completed, authorized users can clear logged diagnostics when appropriate, helping maintain an accurate service history and making it easier to identify new issues in the future. Internal Cat ET product status reports commonly include “Logged Diagnostic Codes” sections, showing how this information is captured in service documentation.

Performs Diagnostic Tests

  • Cat ET supports a variety of diagnostic tests that help technicians evaluate system performance and confirm component operation. These tests may assist with troubleshooting electrical, engine, hydraulic, fuel, aftertreatment, or machine control systems depending on the equipment model and available ECM functions. By running guided tests through the software, technicians can verify whether components are responding correctly, isolate faults more efficiently, and reduce unnecessary parts replacement.

Print Reports and Diagnostic Results

  • Cat ET can generate and print reports that document equipment information, configuration details, diagnostic codes, and test results. These reports are useful for service records, customer communication, warranty support, and before-and-after repair documentation. Internal examples show Cat ET generating “Product Status Report” documents with equipment information and diagnostic code sections, which can help provide a clear record of machine condition at the time of service.

Perform Calibrations

  • Cat ET gives authorized technicians access to calibration functions required after certain repairs, adjustments, component replacements, or system updates. Calibrations help ensure that sensors, actuators, controls, and electronic systems are properly synchronized with the machine or engine. Performing these calibrations through Cat ET helps restore correct operation, improve accuracy, and support proper equipment performance after service work is completed.
